JF017E and JF016E CVT Valve Body Solutions for Nissan and Infinity Models

Mister Truck Parts

Nissan and Infinity automobiles are widely chosen by consumers for their style, luxury and impeccable drivability.

The JF017E CVT valve body is a new and improved way to drive with its continuously variable mechanism which provides the best transmission performance, while staying economical. A compatible redesign, sensors, pressure control solenoids and additional changes have escalated the performance of Nissan and Infinity models like the Pathfinder, Infiniti JX35 QX60, Infiniti QX60 and JX35, Murano, Nissan Terra, Renault, and Nissan Quest.

What is a CVT Valve Body?

The JF017E Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) Valve Body, is a new design that will provide better performance and economy than traditional gearboxes. It uses an elastic band and pressure control solenoids to change gears, which to optimize your driving experience.

A GEARS™ article explains, “The JF017E is a lot like the JF011E but with a few changes. They got rid of the stepper motor (and) the valve body and solenoid arrangement. Another change is they’ve added an input speed sensor. The JF017E is a heavy-duty CVT that shows up behind 3.5L motors. It uses a chain rather than a belt used in the earlier models.”

When Issues Arise with the JF017E CVT Valve Body

When you experience a symptom of a bad auto transmission valve body, it’s typically very noticeable. Chances are that your driving ability will be tested and greatly impacted as your frustration builds while attempting to shift gears unsuccessfully.

This JF017Eand JF016E valve body only has eight valves, plus one more flow control valve that sometimes experiences issues with wear and sticking.

According to the Transmission Repair Cost Guide, the following issues are known to occur in a number of different models and auto transmission valve body mechanisms. Drivers of the Nissan Pathfinder, Infiniti JX35 QX60, Infiniti QX60 and JX35, Murano, Nissan Terra, Nissan Pathfinder, Renault, and Nisan Quest may experience:

  • Shaking, shuddering, bumping or vibrating, which is indicative of JF017E valve body problems requiring repair or replacement.
  • A reduction in hydraulic pressure can occur when the main pressure regulator bore is damaged, which results in delayed engagement or push belt slipping.
  • Failure of the torque converter is caused by the loss of hydraulic control by the lockup control valve.
  • Slipping gears and/or hearing noises on acceleration may be caused by a pressure leak in the primary pulley pressure circuit.

These issues can be addressed with repairs to damaged components

What Makes a CVT Valve Body go Bad?

The transmission fluid goes in through the valve body and if it’s not pressurized properly then you’ll notice that your car doesn’t shift correctly.

If your car’s transmission is not able to shift properly, then you may have a low transmission fluid level indicating a fluid leak in one of the valve bodies. This will eventually cause damage and decreased performance from lack of pressurized gears, making driving more difficult.

Extensive wear while transmission fluid is leaking will result in more extensive damage requiring repairs or replacement of the CVT transmission valve body, the pressure control solenoid and/or other solenoids.
